Scientific Activities
Prof. Popov has developed methods of numerical simulation in the mechanics of contact interactions. He has proposed a method of dimensionality reduction in contact mechanics.
He was the head of 13 grants from foreign organizations. The monograph entitled “Contact Mechanics and Friction. Physical Principles and Applications” is reprinted in 8 editions in German, English, Russian and Chinese, and it was awarded as “Outstanding academic title 2017” by the American “Choice” magazine.
Prof. Popov takes an active part in the scientific conferences of different levels. Over the past 5 years, he has personally given 34 invited oral reports. In 2013-2018, he was a cohost or cochairman of 9 international conferences.
Research Areas
Tribology, nanotribology, cryotribology, biotribology, ultrasound effect on friction processes, numerical simulation of friction processes, seismology, mechanics of elastoplastic media with microstructure, strength of metals and alloys, shape memory materials.
